First of all, as a standard AV nade user, you're just being a whiny punk. It takes two of three AV nades you spawn with to kill the free LAV from full health if it's taking no other damage. Higher tier gear is more effective, like everything else in the game. The downside to AV grenades? They work only on vehicles. They don't even explode if they're thrown at something other than a vehicle. As an Assault suit, there were more times that I wished I had Locus grenades rather than AV. That trade-off seems minor, but is in fact major. Once people know of your AV capabilities, you become a target and the enemy is more wary of calling in vehicles [except for free LAV's, because they're free]. An intelligent player would recognise who the AV players are, and attempt to coordinate against them, because trust me, not everyone has AV nades. It's more of a rarity then you seem to think.
As for the other AV weapons, I can't say that much as I haven't specced into them this build, nor have I dealt with them that much. I've tried the Militia Swarm that they give you a starter fit with, but that was so useless on a tank that all I was doing was keeping them tank from my friendlies, without actually killing it. I don't know if the higher tiers are better or not, though. As a former fatty, I miss my beautiful Forge Gun so much that I made a militia fit for it, but I haven't had cause to actually use it yet, though. As for the Plasma Cannon, I haven't even touched it, but from what I heard, it's useless against vehicles, and the Mass Driver is a better substitute for anti-infantry. You also forgot Remote and Proximity Explosives. From what I've heard, Remote is better for infantry traps [like on a terminal in Skirmish], while Proximity is great for vehicles. At least, that was last build. I haven't seen or used much of these, so I can't comment on them either.
What I'm trying to say is, as far as I know, there's really only three good AV options: Forge gun, AV nades, and Proximity Explosives. Forge guns are great for long range AV and short range AV, but you have to have a fat suit for it, and you move really slow with it, especially when charging [not to mention now you light up like a Christmas tree so everyone knows what you're doing now]. AV nades are not nearly as bad as you say [except maybe the hacked version for no skill. That's pretty cheap], as it sacrifices much-needed offence for defence, which can hurt you in the long run. And Proximity Explosives... I don't really know about.
On the other hand, you're right about Tactical Rifles and KB/M. Tac AR's are way too good at what they do, and KB/M controls are just unfair for everyone who can't afford peripherals.
TL;DR: AV is fine, HTFU. Tac Ar's are OP, and KB/M unbalanced, like it always will be. |
